I-605 Corridor Improvement
Upgrading I-605 to improve safety, reduce heavy congestion, and encourage alternative transportation modes like transit, biking, and walking

The project focuses on improving travel for all users along the I-605 corridor between I-10 and I-105. The corridor serves over 300,000 vehicles daily, and is challenged with higher-than-average collision rates and heavy congestion. Metro, in partnership with Caltrans, is studying alternatives based on public input received in earlier phases, which could include ExpressLanes, additional HOV lanes, and multimodal improvements that will promote the use of alternative transportation modes like transit, biking, and walking. Design strategies aim to enhance safety by updating the freeway geometries while avoiding displacing residents. The project also supports regional mobility by exploring connections to I-10, SR-60, I-5 and I-105. A Draft Environmental Document is in development and will be shared with the community in a future project phase.
