Traffic congestion on local streets steals valuable time and creates safety issues for all street users, particularly those taking public transit to get to and from home, work, school, businesses, and other key locations.

Moving More People Using Less Infrastructure

Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around LA.  Bus service is the backbone of public transit, which is why the NextGen Bus Plan reimagined the bus system to focus on providing fast, frequent, reliable, and accessible service.  Bus lanes are key to successfully implementing this plan.  These lanes would improve bus speeds by as much as 15% or more, increasing service frequency and reliability, as well as enhancing mobility by moving more people without adding more infrastructure.

Improving Mobility in LA

The Sepulveda Bl (Line 234) Bus Lanes Project is an important step toward building a safer and faster multi-modal transit network in Los Angeles. Located along a 5.5-mile segment of Sepulveda Bl from Ventura Bl to Rayen St, and a 0.9-mile segment along westbound Ventura Bl from Vesper Av to Sepulveda Bl, the project would add bus lanes for Metro Line 234.

How These New Lanes Would Work

• Converts the rightmost traffic lane in each direction along Sepulveda Bl between Magnolia Bl and Rayen St into a full-time bus lane
• Converts the rightmost traffic lane on northbound Sepulveda Bl between Ventura Bl and Magnolia Bl into a full-time bus lane
• Converts the curbside lane on westbound Ventura Bl between Vesper Av and Sepulveda Bl into a peak hour bus lane from7-9am on weekdays only
• Maintains virtually all curbside parking as it exists today
• Repurposes 60 underutilized parking spaces along northbound Sepulveda Bl between Raymer St and Lanark St (segment at Metrolink railroad underpass) to serve as a full-time bus lane
• Two general traffic lanes and left turn lanes would be maintained in each direction with the proposed project. Drivers can use the bus lanes to make right turns at intersections and driveways.

• Improves speed, frequency, and reliability of bus service on the corridor, typically serving over 12,000 daily boardings
• Improves safety of crossing streets and walking to nearby bus stops
• Maintains virtually all existing parking for residents and customers
• Provides quick and easy access to nearly 40,000 jobs, over 88,000 residents, neighborhoods, businesses, and other key locations such as Sherman Oaks Galleria, Valley Presbyterian Hospital, and Sepulveda G Line (Orange) Station
