SR-91/Central Av to Acacia Ct Improvement Project
Upgrading SR-91 to ease traffic congestion, improve safety and create safer access to freeway ramps

Metro and Caltrans are planning safety and mobility upgrades along a 4-mile stretch of SR-91 in Compton and Carson. The project includes a new Collector-Distributor (C-D) road system—separated by concrete barriers and running alongside the freeway—to consolidate access from the Central Av, Wilmington Av and Acacia Ct interchanges into a single point. This design reduces conflict points, short merges and weaving movements, which will ease congestion and improve traffic flow. Pedestrian, bike and intersection improvements will support safer travel on nearby streets. Metro is coordinating with Caltrans and the Gateway Cities Council of Governments. The project is currently in the design phase, with a total estimated cost of $176 million, funded through Measure R and additional transportation sources.
