It’s a planned 9-mile extension of the E Line from East LA to Whittier, designed to improve access, reduce traffic and serve growing communities in southeast LA County. The project will be built in two phases. The first phase (Phase 2A) extends the E Line from Atlantic/Pomona in East Los Angeles to Greenwood in Montebello. The second phase (Phase 2B) continues the alignment from Montebello through the cities of Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs and concludes at Lambert in Whittier.

Metro completed the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process in 2024 and is now advancing federal environmental review under NEPA for the first segment from East Los Angeles to the City of Montebello. Construction is anticipated to begin as early as 2029, pending funding.
The project is partially funded through Measure M and is being prepared to qualify for additional state and federal funding sources.
