The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated food insecurity in Los Angeles County, with one in four county residents – more than 870,000 households – experiencing food insecurity from March to July 2020, many of whom also reported that transportation was a significant barrier to accessing essential resources. In response, Metro, through its Mobility on Demand rideshare service, partnered with First 5 LA and their countywide Best Start Community Network of nonprofit partners to deliver food and essential goods to vulnerable families.
Metro’s Mobility on Demand service was designed to provide shared rides to and from key transit locations within three service zones. In its partnership with First 5 LA, the service shifted to deliver thousands of meals to low-income families with children under five every week in areas identified by First 5 LA as having the greatest need. Mobility on Demand transitioned into Metro Micro, the agency’s new on-demand rideshare service, on January 25, 2021, and a new food delivery partnership will launch later this month.
All Metro meetings are accessible to persons with disabilities. Spanish interpretation will be provided. ADA and Title VI Requirements: Special accommodations are available to the public for Metro-sponsored meetings. All requests for reasonable accommodations and translation must be made at least three working days (72 hours) in advance of the scheduled meeting date; please call 213.326.1787 or California Relay Service at 711.
