Frequently Asked Questions
Question
Answer
Why build a second track?
A second track reduces delays, improves safety, and allows trains to pass each other, supporting future service growth and reliability.
Will more trains run?
Not immediately. The project enables future service increases as demand and funding allow.
What is a Quiet Zone?
A federally designated area where upgraded crossings reduce the need for train horns, improving quality of life for nearby communities.
How does this improve safety?
Double-tracking separates directions of travel and upgraded crossings improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
Will the track move closer to homes?
In some areas, yes — within Metro’s right-of-way, with noise mitigation and Quiet Zone readiness to minimize impacts.
