Overview
Metro’s plan includes better transit that provides faster travel times and more reliable service along Vermont Avenue. The Vermont Transit Corridor South Bay Extension Feasibility Study will develop a vision to extend a critical north-south transit corridor through the heart of South Los Angeles, Gardena and Harbor City communities as an extension of the Vermont Transit Corridor Project. In April 2019, the Metro Board of Directors directed staff to conduct a feasibility study looking at extending the Bus Rapid Transit and rail concepts, identified earlier in two prior studies, approximately 10 miles south from 120th Street to the Metro J Line (Silver) Pacific Coast Highway transitway station.
Status
This study is separate from the Vermont Transit Corridor project but is being conducted in close coordination with that project’s environmental review process. Findings from the study will be presented to the Metro Board in Spring 2022, at which time the Metro Board will determine next steps.
